The Lincoln Theatre is one of Washington DC's most storied live music venues, a 1,225-capacity hall central to the cultural life of the city for over a century. Built in 1922 on U Street NW, then known as 'Black Broadway,' the Lincoln served as a premier showcase for African American entertainers during the Harlem Renaissance. Duke Ellington, Pearl Bailey, Cab Calloway, Billie Holiday, and Ella Fitzgerald all graced its stage.
After the 1968 DC riots the theatre fell into disuse, reopening in 1994 following a major community-led restoration. Now operated by I.M.P., the same promoter behind the 9:30 Club and The Anthem, with 1,225 capacity across floor and balcony.
